Protection of telomeres protein POT1. POT1 suppresses unwanted DNA repair activities at telomeres by binding the single-stranded G-rich DNA overhangs at human chromosome ends. TPP1, a binding partner of POT1, along with POT1 forms a complex with telomeric DNA that increases the activity and processivity of the human telomerase core enzyme.These proteins serve as a processivity factor for telomerase during telomere extension.
