Thiamine pyrophosphate (TPP) family, Gcl subfamily, TPP-binding module; composed of proteins similar to Escherichia coli glyoxylate carboligase (Gcl). E. coli glyoxylate carboligase, plays a key role in glyoxylate metabolism where it catalyzes the condensation of two molecules of glyoxylate to give tartronic semialdehyde and carbon dioxide. This enzyme requires TPP, magnesium ion and FAD as cofactors.
